What is Viper and Clifford SmartStart?

A few questions I hope to help clarify for some people:

1) Does this phone app have a security feature. Meaning, if I were to lose my phone at a parking lot or mall, can it lock the app so no one can locate/start/unlock my car?

2) Will this app drain the battery from my phone quicker?

3) I have a B5 A4, no fancy push start button. Will I lose the ability to use my OEM key fob?

If you have a fancy push start Q5, how does the remote starter deal with the immobilizer? Does a key have to stay in the car?

When you state to set up a Smart Start account, is there a monthly, or annual fee to use the service?

Does the application advise you of the cars status? Locked, unlocked, running or trunk is secure. I'd hate to find that the car had been running, or was unlocked by me without my knowledge. How would you close the trunk, should you hit the wrong button from a long distance away - once popped it requires to be actually closed by hand?

Does this application disable the car, if it is stolen or you park it while on vacation, or for the evening?

Local bylaws are placing significant fines concerning the idling of your vehicle, there is a significant waste of fuel, risk of theft and it is not good for the car to warm up from idling alone. I drive my vehicle almost immediately after ignition, it is better for the vehicle, the pocket book and the environment.

you can set up to 2 different passwords that have to be used prior to accessing the application.

2) Will this app drain the battery from my phone quicker?

i have been using this app for over a year and we install it on daily basis, to our knowledge and customers feedback we have not found any evidence on why this application will drain the battery on your phone.

3) I have a B5 A4, no fancy push start button. Will I lose the ability to use my OEM key fob?

no matter what type of vehicle you are operating, the OEM key fobs will always work after installation of a smartstart or remote starter.

depending on the make, model and year of vehicle, push start or not will not make the difference.
we use proper bypass modules that ensure bypassing of the vehicles immobilizer or transponder in the key.
some vehicles data, has not been yet configured by bypass module manufactures.
in that case you must give up a key to ensure proper remote start function.
that being said, we do not need to retain the entire key only the portion where the transponder is located.
again that depends on what type of vehicle it is.

as mentioned smartstart is a convenience system, basically and add on to the features of your vehicle.
just as if you were to open your trunk from the OEM remote, you will have to manually shut it.
unless your vehicle is equipped with open and close automatic functions of rear hatches, sliding doors and etc.
functions as open, start , lock or unlock, are send out only when you choose to do so.
to enter the application you must if you wish have passwords, which will ensure that you can not send a command by a mistake.
also smartstart is preset by us to run only for 12 minutes and then shut down the vehicle, unless otherwise specified by our customer.

smartstart acts as a convenience system, where it is mostly used to start your vehicle where distance is an issue.
working in large office buildings, starting your vehicle from the the go train before reaching your vehicle and etc.
this is not a tracking device.

Thank you for a very thorough explanation, I may not agree with pre-starting your car to make it more comfortable. However the application is pretty slick. I am sure you will be installing many units.

now this is a very cool app! do you just need this app and your module to do the remote starter or is there other hardware needed as well.

you will require a basic remote starter by viper to be installed prior to installation for the smart start module,
