Dragstrip Rental - Who's interested?
 

I was thinking of organizing a dragstrip rental*** for the GHAC. It would be a 5 hr rental, from 11am-4pm. The options are as follows

a) Toronto Motorsports Park (Cayuga, ON) - Cost is $1250 for 6 cars and $2000 for 20 cars.
b) St. Thomas Dragway (Sparta, ON) - Cost is TBD, but they intimated it would be a MUCH better deal than Cayuga.

The nice thing would be that you could show up, get your runs in and take off....or them out over a long time. A friend of mine in the US organized one of these and they all (about 15 guys) got about 20-30 passes in! A few of them needed to add gas. This beats the **** out of getting 3 runs in over 4 hrs on a busy night while your eardrums get annhillated by big block domestics and ricers with fart cans :D

I'm not sure we'd be able to get this cooking for this season, but in spring it might make a good bit of sense.

Anyone interested? I reckon the cost, if we get 20 guys out will range from $40-50 each at St. Thomas, to $80-90 each at Cayuga. I'm not sure, but we may be able to negotiate a better deal.

***before anyone road-course-racers try to get on their high horse and tell me Audis are not drag cars, save it. This is for fun, not to set a world record!

Great initiative. Not only do we get to practice launching and get some runs in but it is also a great time to meet up with others.

I went to Cayuga yesterday...place was EMPTY! There were maybe a dozen people running when I went (test and tune is open from 11 to 4pm to all comers...and I was there from 2:30-3:30, despite Cayuga's clocks indicating DST doesn't exist :D)

All around it was very solid. maybe we could try a meet there first on an open test and tune day...and if it's too busy and frustrating we'll look into the track rental option.

Earlier this year I did look into the track/strip rental and was considering it as a club event. I think this would be a great club event and we should do this in the spring sometime. That way we have plenty of time to prepare and organize. SAK thanks for all the info and bringing this back in front.

I went 3 weeks in a row to Cayuga...and it was pretty dead every single day

Nice thing about the cool temps is that it's a traction nightmare...thus it keeps many of the 2wd cars away. Of course we don't suffer (as badly) from this affliction, so suits us quattro enabled Audi owners just fine. Further, the dense cold air is fantastic for the naturally aspirated cars like b6/7 S4s.

In the spring I reckon it'll be the same scenario, so we should just organize a group day at Cayuga. not necessarily a track rental, but we'll all go together. It's only like $30-40 or something and if it's nice and empty like it was in November, we'll get 6-8 passes in EASILY.

Sounds like a great idea - I'm in for St. Thomas or Cayuga TBH but I voted for St. Thomas as it's nearer to me. Subscribed!

Hmmm... profile fail. Good spot Saki, I shall try and find a prize for you! I shall be driving to any potential meets and not requiring the use of an aircraft.

I wish I'd seen some of your earlier posts (around Oct/Nov) about going to Cayuga because I would've for sure tried to join you work permitting.
