What if I only have one key and I want to program it to lock doors open windows etc.. I had to replace the battery and now I can't use the remote functions of the key. I have a 2007 A3 and only the one key.

Jazz, Try this for me and let me know if it works. Put the key in the ignition/pre startup stage, and put the other key in the door. Lock the door with the button thats on the inside of the door (leave your window down). Insert the key into the door turn it left then right, when at the right stage press and hold unlock for 5-10 seconds.

Let me know if it works.

There is a mod you can do, use the search button I did a write up on it, it should be in your DIY section.

Yup it is the range is horrible. The secret the audi dont tell you is if you touch the key to your chin or middle of your forehead you get twice the range. I love how audi makes you part of all their experiences and technologies.
Joke ^^^^
truth about the chin/forehead thing.

I just tried this as well and nothing. Both keys are dead. Thought it might be the battery but it seemed like quite a coincidence

Re: Key Programming

Hello people, here's where I am right now : I have a 2002 A4 B6 - originally from Germany ( so European version ). I bought it used from someone I know very well , the car was great, the only issue - it had one key. I have been ok for the past years but decided to have another one just in case I loose the first one. The dealer asked for 150-200$ for a new one so I decided to go down the DIY way :)

I have bought a complete key off ebay, with a blank blade ( which I need to get cut ) and also a virgin ID48 chip to have it programmed to my car's IMMO. The key already has one but some people say you need to have a VIRGIN one and so I got that as well.

The remote part is easy to get done so I will get straight to the immo part. I know that the "new" key can be programmed to the car's IMMO with either VAG Tacho/Commander interfcaes ( depending on car year/model - these are also the interfaces that READ the immo's info ) or if I already have the SKC - via a simple VAGCOM interface that a lot of people use/have. The SKC code was not given to me by the previous owner as he didn't have it either so I went on and found someone with a Vag Commander in order to have it read off my car's IMMO. He managed to connect to my IMMO and read out a 5 digit LOGIN code and told me that's the one I will need to program my new key. He also said that the key can be added right there but I didn't have it with me ... so now I have this 5 digit code that I will attempt to use with a VAG COM interface.

My question to you is : why is this a 5 digit code and not a 7 digit code? Could it have something to do with the fact that my car is a 2002 model ? And also, according to Ross-Tech, I will have to input "Date on which the PIN was generated by the dealer" and a WSC Code. Can just input anything on those fields or it has to be something SPECIFIC - and if so, where do I get it as I don't have anything except this 5 digit code ?

LE: it appears that having a 5 digit code is better than the 7 digit one. The 7 digit one appears to be actually the same thing with the 5 digit one, only encrypted, plus you need to input the other info. The 7 digit one is the one you would have on a piece of paper from AUDI and if you don't have it ( like most of the people don't ) there is no way of ever seeing it. It's only suitable if you can't get the 4/5 one. Best way to do it, like I did is read out the 5 digit one ( if it's a 4 digit, just input a 0 in front of it ) using a Tacho/Commander and have it entered, either on the Tacho/Commander screen when you try to match new keys, or on the VAGCOM. This code is everything you need.

Will keep you posted on the progress once I have my blade cut, most likely in the next 2-3 days.
