Winter Tire question also
 

I'm also new 08 A3 owner looking for winter tire recommendations. I wanna go with 16' on ugly steel wheels hopefully with Audi wheel covers -- is that possible nowadays ? Dealer says only alloy wheel will fit over calipers but I see lots of A3 around town with steel winter rims ...anyone know ?

I'm sure someone makes a steel wheel for the A3 but it is possible that it doesn't exist. I'm sure you can find a cheap used set of alloy wheels on craigslist, as there are tons being sold right now.

They do make a steel rim i 16". But the dealer is probably right. depending on your model the brake calipers could be the issue.

Go to TIRE RACK.com and check out the different tires and there reviews. You can even search the reviews by the car type in other words search for Audi's with quattro and see how they liked the tires.

If you don't care what type of rims you will have for winter then search for the tires and then the rims, but If you care about your style of rims then rims first and then match the tire sizes to them

I just bought an aftermarket set of 16" wheels for my TT $130 each for alloys, with Dunlop Winter Sports the tab came to about $1300. Don't put steel wheels on the car, they look like hell and it is such a sweet looking car
