Re: spark plugs

NGK Irridium IX, replaced these with another set of OE NGKs that had yellowed out (overheated) the ceramic near the base.

I saw some thread about using plain copper electrode plugs as a way to run cooler, I might try it on my 2.8 Passat in a few months, but there was more gravity to have Irridum for the 2.7 Turbo as I feel it would be cooking the plugs more

Re: spark plugs

This is great.... I recently purchased my '98 A4 2.8 Quattro from the US.... and it was running fine......that was of course until I installed the DTR lights. Now the car starts to 'sputter' and 'feel like it's mis-firing' or something. Now, I'm no mechanic (not even close), however my friends dad owns a shop and was saying that to install the DTR lights, you need to wrap a wire around a spark plug wire to have a connection of "current" to notify the box when the engine is running.
Now to make a long story short...... the 'sputtering' or whatever you want to call it started after this was done. The friends mechanical dad said that it might be the spark plug wires, or plugs have corroded over the years, and now that they've been moved, they may have fallen apart or lost some 'true connection'. The car has 94,000miles and may need new plugs and wires. I dont need anything for performance, I'm just looking for a place to get decent plugs, and cheap wires in Calgary. Part Source was telling me that plugs can be anywhere from $5-15 each. No biggie.... but what about the plug wiring?? they were saying around $265 for the set on this model of car. Anybody know where I can get these cheaper... and does this sound like it may solve my problem??

Re: spark plugs

The DRL can be turned on using an on-board computer tool, from my understanding all you have to do is change the country code. You shouldn't have to mess with the wires. Do a search of Daytime running lights there should be a wealth of info on this.

I'm no mech, but the spuddering, could be a number of things. Sparks and or wires is a possiblility. Could be sensors, PVC valves etc....

As for cheaper parts. I would look on-line.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.
