New Generation Audi Reliability?

Hey guys,

I'm about to purchase a car, either a 2009 G37 coupe or a 2009 Audi TT. I've spent quite a bit of time nosing around dealerships and while I find the Infiniti a fantastic car, I absolutely love the Audi TT interior, the gas mileage and the fact it is much smaller than the G. (Used to drive a Honda CRX, which I adored.)

The only thing holding me back from the TT is all the horror stories I've read about Audi reliabilty while doing hours of forum reading and Googling.

I was hoping that some of you may be able to assuage my fears, that hopefully in the redesigned new generation of Audis the reliability has greatly improved. I'm incredibly paranoid that I'll be stuck with a money sink once the warranty runs out. My friend who owns an older BMW 3-series has had to endure thousands upon thousands of dollars in after warranty repairs and that is scary!

Have any of your had any major electrical or engine issues in your 2008 and on Audis? Thanks!

Reliability is not an issue really. My car is old but it got only 130 km on it now. I had to do basics on it such as maintenance work and the only thing that i needed to change is the clutch, i was asking for that. Otherwise i actually find it quite reliable.
You have to look at how many people own audi, there are quite a few. Now the general rule is that people wont post how happy they are with that or give you an update on that unless its modding. Its only going to be bad stuff and questions. So thats normal if you think of it.

Hi Trancepotato82,
I'm in a similar situation - looking at buying a used 04 to 06 TT, 100 to 150km. And very concerned about spending thousands in repairs. Love the car, I've checked out a few 3.2 Quattro, coupe, auto/DSG, S-Line's. And even my hockey bag fits in - no problem.
But there is no warranty left on the cars. Haldex and DSG are great but scary in terms of repair costs.
I've been told basically the cars are rock solid BUT be prepared to spend a lot on maintanance. And this was by 1 of the recommended TT mechanics.
What to do...
~Cheers, Michael

it's all about the machine...

My first was a '88 Merkur Scorpio... very rare in North America, expensive parts... I had it for 2 years and put maybe $500 in maintence, despite them having numerous "known issues"

The A4 is know for lots of things, but so far so good... <knock on wood>

Like any car, treat it well, do the maintence, and it'll be fine. Sure things break from time to time, but such is life.

I've also known people that have bought Toyota/Honda and can't keep them out of the garage...

I will say though, that I've faired far better with the German cars I've owned, then the domestics and Japanese ones, as far as needing repairs go.

If you like the Audi, get it, if you ditch it before it hits 100K's you will not have any maintenance issues (of any significance).

An old Audi will cost much more than an old BMW.
