new gearbpx needed ? why ?

I own an A6 1.9 tdi 130, on an 04 plate (april 04). From new, no problems. The other month a whining noise starts up near the front, thinking a possible wheel bearing.... gets louder so takes it the garage and "oh yeah its wheel bearing probably, wait till it gets louder so we can tell which one it is." WTF ? Anyway, after it gets a bit worse, and not thinking its a wheel bearing but more the gearbox, I take it to a gearbox specialist who laughs at the idea of a wheel bearing and then stops laughing when he tells me its defo the pinion bearings in the gearbox, could be upto £2000 with a recomended new clutch. Nice.

Has anyone got any idea if this should have happened so soon, its not even 4 years old yet.

how hard do you drive???
could be a defective gearbox, see if audi will cover it under warranty

weird... i'm thinking the tranny fluid must've leaked out and caused this... the car is too new to have a problem like that...

...SOL comes to mind! I did not think these gearboxes (trannies for us in the colonies) are destructible!!! Isn't 2000 Quids kind of too much?!
