How often do you change your oil?

Everytime I ask a mechanic how often to get an oil change I get a different answer. How often do you change your oil? Do you change the oil yourself or take it to the mechanic?

I guess each mechanic would have his \her own perception on how to maintain a vehicle. We change our oil every 3 months and my husband normally change ours.

At minimum, follow the factory recommendations for your car, not just the interval but the grade and specification of oil. There's far too many variables for any mechanic to know everything (unless it's an Audi tech talking about Audi) Nobody needs a sludge problem. Even with synthetic I change every 7 - 8 K, and that's twice what the factory recommends, but I plan to keep the car for a long time.

Well said. I do basically the same thing.
If you're planning on keeping your car for a long time, frequent full synthetic oil changes are one of the cheapest and easiest things you can do to prolong life IMO.

I change the oil at every included oil change during the scheduled maintenance. I also change the oil once between scheduled oil changes.

For example I believe my scheduled oil changes are as follows:

8000, 25000, 40000, 55000, 70000, 85000, 100000....

I change my oil on these intervals:

8000, 16500, 25000, 32500, 40000, 47500, 55000, 62500, 70000, 77500, 85000, 92500, 100000....

I change the oil every 8000km and ASAP after a track event.

I get a different answer everytime that I ask as well. The way that I drive my car, my boyfriend ends up changing it approximately every two and a half months.

i just do it before winter and before summer lol, no good reason for doing it, just easier to remember. but i do check my oil every 2 weeks to make sure it's not low since my car burns oil like crazy.

I don't drive far enough to deal with it on a mileage basis, so I just go on time. I do it probably every three months, or whenever I have to take my car in for something else. Not all the time you know, but if it's close to time anyway and I have to take it in, I'll get it changed.
