Default diesel engines

Hello all,

I'm curious if anyone has any experience (or knowledge) with swaping gas engine with diesel?
I've been thinking about it for a while now, but couldnt find enough info on the net.

I don't think you will be able to find a how-to on swapping gas to diesel.

What model are you thinking about converting?

Last Diesel Audi I've seen in canada was an 80 something 5000 with the turbo diesel.

Of course there are plenty of diesels in Europe. Would it not be easier to import one from Europe rather than import the parts to modify the vehicle here?

I'm not sure what year vehicle you were thinking of swapping, as the only allowed imports from europe have to have a production date that is 15 years old or older from the date of importation.

well, I have a 2000 A4 1.8T... but I was asking a general question about diesel mods. Maybe its possible to buy a diesel engine that is used in european models (maybe its easier and cheaper to import just an engine than the whole car). And I also dont know those restrictions

well... the engine and the transmission should be swapped at the same time. The problem with gas transmissions is that their gearing is balanced for a gas engine, which gives off HP and torque at moderately high rpms. The diesel engines have different gearing, which take advantage of the motor making tons of torque at low rpms. Mating a diesel engine to a gas transmission will cause your car to be super slow, as the rotations per minute (rpm) is just not there with diesel engines that gas transmissions require to transfer proper speed to the pavement...

diesel cars are awesome to mod, because they work at really high boost levels, which you can further improve in order to squeeze even more power out of them.

You may import any car into Canada as long as the manufacturing date is 15 years or older at the time of importation.

A good website to check out is mobile.de - der Automarkt für Gebrauchtwagen und Neufahrzeuge - Finden oder Verkaufen Sie einfach und schnell ihr Auto It is in German, but fairly easy to navigate through. You can find all sorts of cool/weird models you may have never seen or will never see in the North American marketplace, including TDI Audi A6's with 6speed manual trannies, with quattro.

once, few years back i had a busted tranny on my diesel mk3 jetta and i replaced it with mk2 and every time i shifted it to 5th, the engine RPM sounded like 4th with the old (original) tranny.

maybe i'll just wait for new diesels to come to north america

getting diesels in would be sick... they are so cheap on fuel and have such high tq down low...

Thats what i like about diesels; when driving normal, it has a great fuel efficiency, but it also has the torque when needed
