Checking boost, how to tell if turbo is ok?
Hi All,
New to the forums, and not quite yet an owner. IF all goes well, i'll be picking up a 01 A4 1.8TQ with only 105K tomorrow morning :-D At any rate, I searched the forums, but couldn't find a method to determine how much boost the car is making, other than installing an aftermarket boost gauge. My old VW Corrado G60 had a method of viewing the boost through the gauge cluster display by following a sequence with the key/cruise control buttons. Any secret hidden modes on the Audi's like this? I suspect the turbo is fine, as the car drives good, and seems to perform well, but it would be nice to know for sure. Thanks, Gary |

If you have access to VAG-COM, you could log Engine Block 115 while WOT accelerating thru 2nd & 3rd gears. This will tell you the ECU Requested Boost vs Actual Boost. If the numbers consistently differ more than 20mBar then there is a problem, otherwise boost is good.
