Buying a used Audi with Carproof history...

So I have an option to pick up a used S4 that has about $4k in previous "rear bumper" damage at an Audi Dealership. Can get it at a pretty good discount (I'm guessing close to $8 to $10k under what it would be otherwise).

They claim that the Audi warranty and extended warranty if I opted for it would cover and potential paint fading/rust, and that given the amount of the repairs, it was unlikely that the damage was that bad. Seems to drive fine, looks fine, etc.

Just having a hard time pulling the trigger on it because of that, but seems like a great deal and the extended warranty provides some peace of mind.

Am I nuts not to go for it?

Thanks...

Is the dealer disclosing the carproof? Will they fix the bump before selling it to you?

Yeah, everything was fine with the car, looked brand new. Ended up buying it for $1.5k above their invoice cost (he showed me it when I kept insisting he go lower), and about $6 to $10k less than what they otherwise list for for a similar used model.

They also transfered over the previous owners paint protection warranty (and leather protection) that they had purchased for $1k 8 months earlier free of charge (waived the $325 re-registration fee).

this is on your 2011?

what'd you pay? Share the deal!

Pretty awesome car. Most people **** their pants when a car has been hit, so it knocks a bunch of money off. Just beware that you'll also lose a little when you sell, so the 'deal' isn't free...but by the time you're selling the car the 'hit' that the 'hit' causes won't be nearly as much as what you saved.

Basically it sounds like you got into an S4 for used A4 money. That's stellar.

Ended up paying 53k vs the 59k they were asking. They bought it from the previous owner for $51.5k. Mind you, I also picked up the extended warranty to 6yr and 120km. The prior owner got the leather protection and paint protection extras on it and they transfered that to me as well. Plus when they sent it out to get detailed, they accidentally did the paint and leather protection on it again. So guess I lucked out there.

With the $700 off on the first payment, seemed like a pretty good deal. To boot they gave me $2k more than the highest tradein value on my old rx330, so can't complain. Couldve got another 1 to 2k had I sold it myself, but too much of a pain IMO.
