Audi aims to sell 1 mln vehicle in 2010 -CEO
FRANKFURT, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Volkswagen's (VOWG_p.DE) premium brand Audi beat its own retail target last year and aims to repeat its record sales level from 2008 by delivering 1 million vehicles to customers in the current year, its chief executive said.
"We are making a lively start in 2010 and aim to deliver 1 million cars again," Rupert Stadler said in a statement issued at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit's Cobo Center.
Audi sold 949,700 vehicles last year, a decline of 5.4 percent over the record high set in 2008 but nonetheless easily beating its recent target of 925,000 units. [ID:nFAB013301]
In December, the company sold 79,300 cars for a decline of just 4.2 percent. Demand in China drove volumes, as sales in Audi's biggest export market rose 76 percent to 19,069.
Audi expects its U.S. sales to exceed 90,000 units in 2010 after deliveries of 83,000 last year. By 2015, the brand wants to double volumes in the world's largest luxury car market to 160,000 vehicles.
