1.8 2001 tt boost problems

Hi guys just joined the forum today.I got my 2001 audi tt on friday stock standard and very clean. But after a while I noticed the car loses boost intermittedly. It pulls fine in 1st gear and boosts all the way into the red line but change to second and the boost is gone.Sometimes it does this from the start.Any suggestions as to what this could be caused by.........

I recommend u to have it checked out, i suppose there could be a leak in a hose to the turbo.....so u might have to replaced the hose and it might work fine, also see if the hose(s) are clamped/secure.....hoping it fixes the problem for good, but if it happens again, it might be something else......

It could be a number of things- check for DTC codes like overboost limit causing it to go to limp mode, boost leaks, vacuum leaks, Diverter valve, wastegate, N75 valve, N249 valve. My money is on the DV, a common failure point and easy to check/ replace.

Unfortunately, Audi parts are 'way expensive' just about everywhere ;-(
Forge seem to have a good reputation, thats probably a safe bet.
But before you drop some coin on one, you might want to remove the old one and make sure its really the cause- or at least confirm its busted or not.
The test is easy: once removed, use your thumb to push the valve open from the bottom hose port, and with it held fully open, cover the vacuum hose nipple with another finger, then release the plunger- it should stay open, and you will feel a suction from the vacuum nipple- wait 30 seconds and release the vacuum line, then the valve should close. if it leaks and closes itself before you take your finger off, and/or wont hold a vacuum, the DV is defective.

I'll go and test it tonight.Found a turbo kit on gumtree.co.za that ''develops 385kw.Goes for 15 000 rands.Quite a expensive kit......comes with a turbo timer,t3/t4 hybrid,adjustable fuel regulator,front mounted intercooler,hoses,pipes,dv,piggy back chip,etc.But I think there's gonna be a clutch upgrade while I'm at it.
