Ceramic Coating newbie
 

Hi,

I am considering coating my car, the problem is, I have almost no knowledge on it, I just know that it protects the surface on which it is applied from stains, dirt and micro-marrings.
I don’t really know what characteristics I should look for when I make my choice:
Almost all companies promise a better look, more shine, … But then it gets more complicated: some advertise the hydrophobicity (if someone could explain this to me that would be great ahahah). Some others, heat or UV resistance etc…
So my question is, what should be the characteristics I should look for in a ceramic coating?

From what I understand they're basically all the same, it's a polymer that reacts and bonds to the paint surface once applied and becomes very hard. It's silica based from what I remember so it basically forms a 'glass' layer which is hydrophobic (repels water, it will just bead off). It's essentially a longer lasting alternative to wax, it won't last forever and does require maintenance, just much less than wax. I used the cquartz pro 3.0 and did a couple layers since I was applying it to a vinyl wrap which is more porous than paint. They have a product called recharge which is like a quick ceramic coating which they say will last about 6 months, it's just spray on and buff off so it takes 15-20 mins to do a whole car. Technically you could just use recharge on it's own or apply it after ceramic coating as an extra layer of protection.

The main thing you need to take into account is that you need to prep the surface extremely well, if there are any defects, scratches, swirls in your paint this will just protect them so make sure anything is corrected before you apply ceramic coatings.
