Timing Belt Change Cost & Quality ?

Hi,
My car have done 110k Km and I am planning to do the timing belt job this week . I have following questions

#1) Are there types of timing belts or OEM works the best ?

#2) How much time does it takes to change the belt ?

#3) What is the approximate job cost . I have got quotes from 550$ to 900$. Not sure if its just the price or actual difference in job too

Thanks in advance !

O/T but be thankful it's not the 4.2... ~$5,000 !
Although it's a chain (which is supposed to be the lifetime of the engine), the guides can wear or break.

Labour should be around 800-900... parts are around 300....

The cost of changing timing belt is $1600 but if you checked out different independent Audi shop in your area then you may be able to find a place that can do it for less then $1600 and it takes approximately four hours to do this task.

Re: Timing Belt Change Cost & Quality ?

I went to my mechanic. He said its not required. He had a small testing meter similar to what Doctors have to check heart beat and he checked for any noise or unusual behaviour. So I am good to go. Will go back to him after 10-15k

BTW, if it's a belt instead of a chain, you should change it as per the manual.
If it breaks while running (when else is it going to break?), your valves are going to stop in place and the pistons will smash into them (an interference engine) and then it's time for a new engine.
I would change out the water pump at the same time - while you're in there.
