Synthetic oil

Hi there,

I'm a new member who just purchased an '07 A4 2.0T. with 29,000KMS. Any opinions on swithching this car over to synthetic oil?

Thanks.

I'd switch to sythetic for sure, and with a turbo motor in paticular, just to ensure the best lifespan of your motor / turbo. The turbo can build up a lot of heat when driven hard, and sythetic oils can deal with it better.

Re: Synthetic oil

are there any brands that are recommended? or ones that we should avoid?

are there any that are known to be better or worse for the engine?

I believe Audi recommends Castrol synthetic. Every 10,000 kms. is what I recommend - especially with a turbo motor. My turbo has 130,000 kms. - all original and running just fine! I may use 1/2 litre in that 10k run.

Motul...and nothing but. I have to do it every 5k, but I would do about every 8k....I'm kind of strict with that.

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the info. I always thought you could safely run synthetic quite a bit longer than conventional oil. I'll definitely be switching.

In particular, Audi 1.8T engine is very susceptible to oil sludge. By using synthetic oil and changing it every 7000km you will extend the lifetime of your engine and prevent oil sludging. Good luck.

Re: Synthetic oil

I believe the whole point of using a premium synthetic oil is peace of mind. I like knowing that I can trust the oil in my car to protect my engine. I like knowing that 300,000 miles down the road, I won't necessarily have to start looking for another vehicle (unless I'M ready). I also like knowing that when 10,000 miles rolls around, I still have a few thousand miles left to find time to change the oil.
