Seat Pains

Hey guys,

I have a 2007 Audi A4 - and I bought it over the phone and shipped it to Ontario. I love the looks, the ride, and everything about the car, except the seats. When I test drove it, no problem - but now that I have it, I...really am starting to lose my mind.

I have a passion and appreciation for cars, but it's so hard to appreciate my new used car when I get into it every time and my back KILLS. It's something about the lower back that's driving me insane. My behind hurts on long trips because the seat is so firm...

I'm thinking about reupholstering the seats. I spoke to a guy in KW who does auto upholstering for the last 3 decades, and am planning to put medium density foam in the seat and soft in the rear / it should work. My old Infiniti QX4 had the perfect seats. 9 hours straight from Waterloo to NY and I was still kicking!, now from Waterloo to Toronto and I want to shoot myself....

But being me, i'm paranoid - with SRS airbags, seat heater coils, lumbar support, there's a lot of things that can go wrong / and I'm not mechanically inclined...at all.

Before you go around bashing me for my idiocy, any suggestions or words of wisdom would be great....I love the car, but the seats are driving me absolutely nuts. No matter what I do to the seats and its infinite positions, my lower back kills...and I have no medical back problems that have been diagnosed, I just have a minor case of slouching...

Sigh...thanks in advance

Did you try the lumbar support button on the side of the seat? It may help some of the problem.

you wont get bashed on this forum buddy. If the guy has been doing it for that long, dont worry about the electronics. the seats over time do work in. you may have to change seats...i dont really know what to tell ya..

Ah thanks - he wanted something like $350 to work it out, I think i'm going to do it. It's Herman's Auto Trim

He's been doing stuff for 40 years and when I saw him on Friday, he was more than helpful...

My thought is..."it can't get any worse" for my back, so I think i'm going to work something out...i'll let you guys how it goes!

I got my car back!!!!

I just wanted to say that my experience today went absolutely fantastic. Terry, one of the managers/(or maybe owner), brought me to and from home. I just got the seat back, and after $300 + tax, I now have a soft, but firm seat (think Japanese, not American car here....).

The quality of work is amazing. No visible signs that the seat was taken apart, just that when I got in, my back stopped killing me. The work and price is amazing - guess that's why they've been in business for 40 years.

I have a few issues I need to take care of. Being the first car with horizontal seams, the bulges are now a bit bigger due to increase in foam. For my back, he unhooked the seams from the chair so that it's level, but for the other ones, he kept the independent bulges. I'm going to try and get used to them, but i can feel the ones near my gentlemen bits, so...hopefully that'll go away =)

if you get tired of your upgraded seats, you could always do what a few A4 owners have done...look for a set of S4/RS4 Recaros

best seats in the world, and people tend to love them.

The odd RS4 owner decides he wants the Euro RS4 Recaros which are lighter, so they import them, then sell their stock Recaros. You can pick a set of those up and have a real one of a kind A4!

Hmm, I am quite certain I would love those seats. I sat in a RS4 in a showroom once, if I had the $, I would have gotten one....

I have a hard time trying to find the seats in the GTA, any advice? Thanks! :D

none really...check audizine audiworld quattroworld fourtitude and audiform classifieds

also, the seats were on the 2004-2008 S4, so if someone writes off an S4 those seats will be available somewhere. Not sure the process for recovery though.
