A8L/D3 - Adding a supercharger

Hi all,

I have an Audi A8L 2005 with 100K on it. I would like to boost my car's performance and was thinking about installing a supercharger. Anyone have any experience with that in this forum ?

- What's the recommendation to boost engine performance ? Should I install a supercharger or maybe a turbo ?
- Any links or info about ECU remapping for the A8 ?

Thanks.

Re: A8L/D3 - Adding a supercharger

I'm not an Audi specialist, but I do have alot of experience as a mechanic.

From what I've gathered and experienced, Superchargers are less efficient then Turbochargers. Even though a Supercharger can improve your the amount of horsepower your vehicle has, but it absorbs about a third of the output of your crankshaft. In other words, energy is wasted with a supercharger. Because of this wasted energy, the supercharger also requires more gas, but can often deliver a greater amount of power than a Turbo.

The negative side of a Turbocharger is the so called "turbo-lag" which occurs at low RPMs. This means that at low RPMs, the output of the engine is minimal. I currently have a 1.8 Turbocharged A4, and i barely notice the lag. I don't know about Superchargers, but Turbos require more frequent oil changes than naturally aspirated engines.

You can also boost a vehicles performance by enlarging the cylinders (I would recommend his being done by professionals), installing a chip, installing a better exhaust than the stock exhaust which allows for more controlled air flow out of the cylinders and many more options are available to you, some of which I can't think of at the moment.

Hope this helps.

I think PES makes a supercharger kit for your car.... I would love to see a s/c A8L!
I think you would have an easier time with a s/c than a turbo.

You can certainly "chip" your ECU. Unitronic, GIAC, APR and others do this and some say is safest, easiest most economic method to increase power. Try calling some GTA tuning shops. I'd try Pfaff Tuning or H2S Sports. You should also look into upgrading the TCU as well; best with same brand as ECU upgrade. I did both my ECU & TCU at Pfaff Tuning. Ask for Mark Basili, but anyone there can help.

supercharger is your best bet. Unfortunatley the D2/D3 A8 isn't exactly a big mod-bug market.

There are a few kits out there for the B6/7 S4 and the C6 S6. Mayve one of those will work? It's a long-ass-shot.
