Do they use many of the same parts?

The A8 looks alot better, but is also a whole bunch more expensive...is this relationship like the Jetta/A4 one?

 

I *think* it shares the same platform along with the Bentley Continental GT. There might be a few parts shared in the parts bin but shouldn't be much.

The Phaeton itself was a blunder - too expensive to be a VW and it was pulled from the North American market.

 

Phaeton is built on steel body, the same as Bentley Contiential GT. A8 is built on Aluminum Space Frame (ASF) which is lighter and stronger than steel body. As for dynamic abilities, Phaeton is more of a blvd cruiser while A8 is a very capable handler. A8 is like a GTI of prestigous sedan while Phaeton feels more of a luxury sedan.

 

US pre-owned can be had for $50K. A little tougher to find them in Canada but would be a great buy - well depreciated.

A8's are plentiful on the roads - Phaeton is nice 'n rare!.

Agreed with above - Phaeton is a crusier - but a terrific car if you can get over the marque - which I think stands out from the crowd (even in metros like Toronto and Montreal where A8's are a dime a dozen.)

 

Agreed, in all my time i've only seen one Patheon and I didn't even get a good look downtown. I see A8's more frequently but do like the new look of them.

 

My uncle bought both an Audi A8 W12 and a Bentley Continental GT in Singapore. Real beautiful cars. In Singapore, the AUdi is selling for 530,000 and the Bentley is going for 800,000.

 

Phaeton may be coming back to the NA market if current rumors turn out to be true. Even a model to slot in between the Passat and the Phaeton....

Doesn't seem to make sense to me though as it seems like cannibalizing Audi sales, they have the luxury market locked up in terms of VAG.

 

the phaeton never really appealed to me... too much for a vw...

 

I rather have the Audi badge.

 

I don't think its about the badge... more like lack of quattro and too much beetle...
