fuel consumption advise
I have had my 2006 A6 4.2 for about four months now and i'm getting an average of 15 litres per 100 km. All the reviews i read before purchasing suggested something around 11.5 to 12.5. Being a V8 I knew going in that i couldn't be shy of paying for some gas (did i mention premium). I drive very lightfooted so i'm wondering if this is normal, and the reviews are wrong, or do i need someone to have a look at it. By the way, i love it. What a car.

Re: fuel consumption advise
15L/100K's actually not bad. I gets around 17-18L/100K on average. It's an 8 & AWD after all.
However, I do believe 12.5L/100K is achievable on long trips (all highway @ moderate speed). |
Re: fuel consumption advise
I get about 13.3 on my s4 4.2 Keep the revs up and by premium.( the real premium)
..dont buy crap gas from Mohawk. Petro crap .by shell vpower...and let me know after a fill. |
Re: fuel consumption advise
I know it's not a 4.2, but my '01 A6 2.7T saw 11.9 L/100k in mixed city/hwy driving, and it's the first week I've had it, so I've not been driving that lightly :-). One thing that seems to make a difference, and I know this is against the "normal" rules for efficient driving, is to accelerate briskly up to the speed limit in town, then just cruise around. It's just averages, so a consumption of 50L/100 km for 3 seconds getting to 60km, vs. a consumption of 25L/100km over 10 seconds, the quick acceleration wins, and is more fun ;-) (not real numbers, just a guess)
