Amp/sound system failures

So I'm about to have a 2nd new amp put into my 2010 Audi. I went with the upgraded B & O stereo when I originally purchased it and not long into ownership, the sound system would occasionally cut out. The interface on the screen would still show the music was playing (as in, the song duration would still be increasing) but no sound. It would cut out for approx 30 seconds and then the music would cut back in.

At first I dismissed it - no big deal - just an amp reset for some reason... Then it started to occur more often. Then about a month ago, it cut out for good. Royal Oak did a bunch of troubleshooting and ended up swapping out the amp.

With the new amp, the cutouts have started again and I'm scheduled to have 2nd amp replaced. Apparently this is occuring frequently enough that Audi head office is saying to keep swapping out amps until the cut outs stop happening.

To me, there is still an opportunity to do some root cause analysis.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any other known solutions? I've poked around on the various forums and haven't found anything.

A colleague of mine who is an aeronautical engineer and serious enthusiast of another german car brand which will not be named here felt that this may be the result of a "interrupt override", where the amp for some reason triggers an interrupt message, thinking that there may be an incoming bluetooth/phone call. He then started talking about bus-based messaging and controllers and he lost me...

Anyway - long post - sorry - just was hoping someone might have some input/experience.

Re: Amp/sound system failures

My 2011 S4 does the same. It's very common. There have been a bunch of posts over on Audizine regarding the same issue. I haven't had it cut out completely though, it always comes back (after 30 seconds like you mention). Your situation is the first I've heard about sound not returning, everyone else has just been living with it. Interesting to find out if it keeps happening after you replace the amp for the second time.
