Default Cleaning your boot jamb and seal

Often overlooked, the boot jamb, or hatch jamb as shown in the images, seals the back of your car, protecting it from dirt, road grime, leaves and other nasties. Unless you clean your car thoroughly, it is an area often forgotten during the regular wash. Not only will dirt ruin the look of your car, but it can actually damage the paint over time if left unwashed.

The mix of particles on the dirt can scratch the surface of your clear coat allowing the bare metal to start oxidizing. So it’s ideal to wash your car’s seals regularly and thoroughly with Autoglym Engine & Machine Cleaner – though this product is predominately used for cleaning engines, it’s also great at attacking dirt and grime, and is 100 per cent safe to use on seals and paintwork.

To begin, pop open the boot of your car and inspect the area around the jamb and rubber seal. It is also a good time to also inspect the factory boot lining to make sure everything is intact, such as your car jack, tool kit and spare tire. Remove any leaves that are trapped by hand or with a brush.

What you want to do next is spray Autoglym Engine & Machine Cleaner around the boot jamb and seals; do not spray the cleaner onto the underside of the boot lid, use the brush to carry the cleaner onto the edge of the panel edges and agitate any visible dirt to help loosen tough build ups.

To remove the cleaning solution it is ideal to close the boot lid up to the first click, then, using a jet hose, point away from the car to avoid splash back and hose off any cleaning solution.

Finish off by wiping and drying the area with a damp microfibre cloth to remove any remaining dirt.

For a complete care, spray Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care onto a soft cloth and apply to the rubber trim around your car to give the rubber seal a glossy shine while creating a protective coating.
