RNS-E Update

Anyone try installing an RNS-E software update? I'm downloading 650 right now.
Just wondering if anyone has, whether they ran into any issues and if it was successfully installed, which version did you install?

Thanks.

Re: RNS-E Update

Ok, so I tried installing SW 650 to no avail. The system doesn't begin the upgrade process.
I tried 2 different CDs and one DVD. I tried two different operating systems. I tried two different burning software on two different devices.
I tried different CD modes.
I pretty much tried everything. I didn't try Verbatim CDs as I don't have any. That seems to be the last thing I can try.

According to the torrent download, other people have successfully installed the update. They say to simply burn the files to the root folder of the CD, plop it in and the RNS-E simply reads the CD, notices a new version and begins the install. Mine just sits there. It displays the CD label fine which means it's able to read the CD but doesn't begin the install.

I'm guessing no one here as either attempted an RNS-E update or if they have, never encountered this problem?

You're right. 650 is the Euro version. I realized this afterward (good thing it didn't work). The highest US version is 260 (no video support but aux support) or 200 (video support but no aux support) or so I've read.

For the DVD, did you buy an add-on?

Cool, where did you install the single Din DVD player? You wouldn't happen to have a picture of your console would you? :)

Re: RNS-E Update

Ok, so after playing around with the Audi Navigation System Plus for the last couple days, I'm somewhat disappointed.

1) Max number of mp3s - 400. I read it might be able to go up to 512 or something with a more recent update. Still fairly low.
2) Card 1 and Card 2 don't merge in the mp3 list. I have 2 SD cards, my mp3s are on random but I have to specifically say card 2 if I want a song from card 2. I would have hoped the system could have merged them for me into one 800 song list.
3) Scrolling through the song list. Freaking slow. I have to turn the knob a million times to get to the bottom of the list. Doesn't seem to have a fast scroll or search option.
4) Mix/Random option doesn't work when selecting next song (I hear that's fixed with updated software though).
5) SD cards aren't cached. Every time I start the car after an extended amount of time, I have to wait for the Mp3s to load. Only takes one to two minutes but still. This doesn't happen when I turn the car off and back on though. Weird...

So yeah, I'm fairly disappointed with their software...

hey axel
just a bit of info for you on waiting for the cards to load, as soon as you unlock the car the rnse powers up and starts to load the mp3s and accuire the satalites and map data from the dvd
if you unlock the car then wait 30sec - 1min when you get in and start it you will be ready to go
it does it the other way as well if you sit in the car and lock the doors you will hear the rnse running for a good couple of minutes.

Good to know although my "Car unlock -> Get into the car -> Start the car up" isn't going to change hehe. It usually takes me less than 15 seconds to do all three :)
Not a huge deal, the delay is loading the mp3s is the least of my issues but thanks for the heads up.

Re: RNS-E Update

Well, finally updated my software and the MP3 random thing is fixed so that's good. Still need to test the max number of mp3s.
