Installing a subwoofer over and above the factory Bose system

Hey, I have a B7 A4 with the Bose sound and I was curious as to whether or not I can install an AMP and Sub to go around the built in bose amp or kinda work with it?

If I do this, can I control the subwoofer by simply turning down the bass through the audio control settings?

Re: Installing a subwoofer over and above the factory Bose system

Trust me you don't want to connect anything in with Bose junk... It's probably possible to tap into the audio signal somewhere either high or low level or with some type of aftermarket stock-to-aftermarket adapter, but I wouldn't try to run the signal from whatever Bose does with it when they hack up the sound to massacre it. If it's possible to tap in somewhere in between the HU and the Bose stuff (if the Bose processing and amps are external) then it's best to do it there.

Otherwise, really, I'd rip out anything Bose related and replace/re-wire the whole thing.

Re: Installing a subwoofer over and above the factory Bose system

Krispykarim,

Their are a couple options that you can do to get this done.

1) A good Audio shop can and will install RCA outputs on a Factory deck if needed
I have seen lots of this done on GM's as they do not normally have the opening for a
regular head unit. (But you will not be able to directly controll the sub via the deck you
will need to look into getting a higher end Amp that has a control unit conected to the Amp itself (Kicker / Rockford etc...)

2) If you are not willing to get RCA installed on the deck itself most not all Amps do have a High Level input on them that will take the signal directly from the rear speaker wires but with this set up you are only able to control the volume not the Bass unless you get a high end Amp with a Sub control BUT USUALLY with the High end Amps you do not have the High Level input b/c 99% will only use RCA set up. ( So if the bass volume control is little to no use to you this is the easiest way to hook a sub up.)

3) Just like Audi's Revenge advised start from scratch and install New. Bose does make great audio equipment some of the best in the world but its not in Car Audio that they made their name it is and was in home Audio that they made it big and invested most of thier reserch. As far as sound goes most if not all the big names in Car Stereo can easly keep up with and even out preform Bose when it comes to Car Audio. Do the reserch and look you will find that Bose is not all that it great when compared to Good Car audio equipment.
IMO spend the $$$ go get a new complete system this is the best option as everything in new and I am willing to bet is going to sound a whole lot better that any Factory system
even if it has the name Bose on it. This option will cost you the most but will have the biggest pay off in the end and it will ALL BE INSTALLED professionaly for free.

Hope this helps

Their really is no way of making a Awsome Audio system for your car unless you are willing to spend the $$$ for it.
