Aftermarket Deck issues?!

Hey guys.. does anyone here have an aftermarket deck in their B6 A4/S4? Did you have to relocate your factory deck somewhere in the car? I was thinking of getting a new double din deck with Bluetooth built in. But I've heard a few horror stories of having to rewire everything and move the factory deck to the trunk (Or some other place) just not sure if thats actually true or not. Anyone have any experience with this?

Factory deck goes way way back, ...... towards garbage bin. If new double DIN fits in dash, then you should get unit with NAV if you need it and bluetooth as well. Wiring isn't much of a problem unless you have much older CAN-BUS wiring system like my old beasty. You'll want to check if your existing steering wheel controls will still work with new deck. (mine won't and I've checked with Kenwood, Kromer and wiring experts in UK) Older CD players likely won't work with new deck but everyone has gone to IPOD interfaces that'll provide hundreds of CDs at a touch. Wiring can be done yourself if you're good with that sort of thing or else take it to a reputable stereo installer. Installation costs less than a high quality deck.

there is lots involved in this... i will be doing a full upgrade of my symphony ii stereo... i bought a rns-e but its a lemon and the dvd drive needs replacing, needless to say i want to get something installed, i'm just trying to decide if i need nav or the video screen.

i have the full wiring diagrams as i have access to mitchell on demand (mechanic service manual) i also have the vag-com as well.

i am replacing the speakers and i purchased a boston acoustics amp that can take high level inputs as well as rca. my original plan was to install the rns-e and run the amp off the inputs at the back (i have an avant) the amp fits neatly under the cargo tray in any case. the amp, if you are interested is the GTA-1005. i bought it off this website: Boston Acoustics GTA-1005 GTA Series 5-Channel Amplifier

i will be replacing all door speakers and the sub... i'll eventually built a custom subbox to fit the existing location... more on that later.

in any case i will be getting the project planned and hopefully will have a nice write up with pics. the rewiring for an aftermarket deck isn't that difficult if you've done it before.

let us know if you get the steering wheel controls to work. If you stay with the Audi rns-e, then you'll have a better chance of having the steering controls to work; but I've found that the deck/nav/bluetooth system is inferior to major after market decks like Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer and others.
