Default Spacers=DRC Failure?

Ok, here's one...had a wheel shop tell me that my stock OEM rims need machining to properly mount 10mm H+R spacers. Another shop said he had no problem mounting 12mm spacers all the way around on RS's with no machining required (no vibration/shimmy etc) and no rubbing. Gonna try these. But this got me to thinking...some shops like Discount Tire (here in the U.S.), will not install spacers, due to "wheel-off issues". Whatever. Bringing the car in to an Audi stealer for a re-balance, (think I threw a weight..shimmy at 60 mph, but goes away at 80..) and they agreed to install while wheels are off. Anyway...do you think there is any chance that the change in geometry (stuffing the wheel and tire outward could contribute to a premature DRC failure? I have already had the recall done (was performed prior to my buying the car (CPO).

Well...41 views and no one cares to chime in? At least on the spacer/machining issue? WTF?

No idea why the wheels need machining. As far as spacers are concerned, I've used them in the past (not on my RS) and have MTM 10 mm all 'round for my TTS. BTW, I'm planning on selling the spacers as I'll be changing wheels this season. You should be fine provided the spacers are hubcentric and you use longer bolts. I have difficulty seeing how spacers would cause a problem with DRC's (they already are known to have issues) and if you do have a problem them take the spacers off before going in to the dealership looking for warranty coverage.

Well, going to fit the 12 mm H+R's tomorrow all around. They are hubcentric, and the vendor assured me no issues with vibration or anything. Hope I don't rub!

sounds like lots of bullshit being thrown your way

as far as 'installing' spacers....you know that they're just a disc between the mount and the wheel right? You can do this in your driveway

With regard to blaming DRC failures on spacers, you could theorize that eating watermelon causes a DRC failure...that going to work causes it...because it happens to everybody eventually, some 3-4 times all after dealer fixes. It's co-incidental and highly likely, so it's easy to point fingers at stuff.

Now...Let's see some pics of this RS4!

Installed 12mm H+R all the way around , with no rubbing! (Ok- 4 guys + golf clubs in the car, hit a dip on the I-10 HOV at 90+, and a slight rub). Otherwise, all is good, and looks great! Turns out I had the car shipped to Canada, and it will be here Wed. Can't wait! (oh...I guess I can....the amount of gravel aka "pit-run" on the roads here has me thinking I wont be driving it till June!) Would post pics, but my camera is in the glove box- Duhh...
