Red face S4 maximum tire size

the original tires on my 2006 S4 Cab were 235/40/18 Michelin PS2 on BBS rims but they just don't look beefy. I had a 01 A6 4.2 with 255/40/17 and they looked great. The size fitted (close) and I ran my second tire/rim set on the S4, but the 0.4 inch in height made more of a difference so I am back to the originals.

I was hoping to put wider tires on the rear - yes makes little sense other the look and feel - and to keep the fronts as original size so they don't rub I would have to go to 265/35/18.

Does anybody know what the widest tires that will fit onto and S4 are? I saw a post with a 255/40/18.

Thanks.
