Chipping based on altitude

If a car is chipped in a different city one might need to have it reprogrammed? I think the APR chip and programming goes for around $600. Can it be adjusted since car is going from Van to Cal? What kind of $ to do the work you think?

In Calgary I suppose TuneDub, Tunerwork, and Concept 1 can all do?

Yes, power output is going to be dependent on atmospheric pressure (which is were I think you're going with this), but the engine still functions the same way regardless of where it's being driven.

The engine needs oxygen and at sea level it makes "x" power, but as altitudes rise and the oxygen levels drop, then the engine makes less power. It doesn't really matter what car you're driving, power is reduced. The car's horsepower rating would probably be calculated at sea level, but if you were in the Alps and ran it on a dyno, then the numbers would be down. I think you'll find that most performance testing numbers have been "adjusted" to sea level for this very reason.

I'd say don't worry about the actual horsepower number the engine produces, just consider the +horsepower you're gaining. Also be aware that the APR tuning basically doubles the stock atmospheric pressure and if you're wanting to increase the boost pressure further in an attempt to offset the reduced oxygen levels then you should probably also be looking at a turbo swap.

Just my $0.02 - hope it helps.
