Default B5 S4 vs B6 1.8T

Hey guys, awesome forum here!

Im in the market to buy a new car and was hoping to get some advice from all the gurus here!

Been looking on craigslist for a while now and both the B5 S4 and B6 1.8 T are in my price range. ( < 13k)

Was wondering what you guys recommend??
I quite like the power of the older S4 but i've heard mixed reviews about the reliability and that if the motor goes, it'll be hella expensive to repair?? Then we have the less powerful but newer 1.8T. I like the shape and theres a lot more of them around.

It'll be used to get to get to the snow and back so just assume the quattro would be awesome on both cars.

Any advice would be really appreciated!
Thanks!

The S4 will be more fun and nicer inside but will have a bunch more km which means more service dollars. The A4 will be newer with less issues.

I'd get the S4 if you can afford any possible repairs or the A4 if your stretching the budget.

I wonder if the OP posted his question in the A4 section (instead of the S/RS section) whether they would all answer A4

i had both .....And its simple way to look at it

If you want a car that will take you to point a-b and cheaper on repairs than A4 is very simple to choose .
Want a Saloon that will make your trip from A-B more fun and make your friends jealous that you got one of the best sport cars out there but cost a arm and leg for any repairs than pick it .

I can tell you right now, i loved my S4 will all my heart and broke my heart when it left cause insurance for a 20 year old is unreal . But the A4 is fine. But i would get the S4 in a heartbreak as it will prob be the best car i ever have driven . But make sure everything is fine with the s4 and it has a full service history, and its twin turbo's are fine and you hear no whistling sounds.

Like the guys above said steak or hotdog
unless your a kid get the steak !

Yeah im just worried about repair costs as i've heard so many horror stories

but coming from a 350z/evo, not sure if the 1.8T will cut it

Steak or hot dog indeed....
