First of all, you state you ordered a new '08?
Dealerships are fined the MSRP of the vehicle for selling a brand new one to a canadian for direct import. Perhaps you are buying used, that is all they are allowed to do.
Secondly, the bumpers for USA do not meet canadian crash test standards, hence a few parts need to be changed. Dealers are charging you lots of cash to dissuade you from buying in the USA. I would recommend having the work done south of the border before you pick it up, saves the headache and is much cheaper.
good luck

I agree! I was VERY impressed with the attitude and knowlegable AUDI staff on the othe end of the line much better then Toyota for example. Now that I've got my A4 I'm hooked.

I'd suggest ordering the "canadian parts" from the dealership where you bought the vehicle and have them install it before you import the car. Bet it is less than 1/2 the price of Calgary.

The price difference can be VERY deceiving. Take into account travel down to pickup the vehicle, GST and DUTY at the border, bumper Mod's, Inspections, addional licensing. The price comes close to $84000!CAD when all said and done.

The bumper standards are being revised in the next week or two - erasing this issue for US cars that fail CDN bumper tests - look it up on Google.. there's a number of news stories out there - also this change will be retroactive - meaning that you can now bring an 07 model in without the bumper work.

The wording of the amendment basically says 'any US car that meets US bumper standards are now acceptable in Canada'.

I'm reasonably sure the RS4 CAB is on the INADMISSABLE list as the bumpers can't be modded at all to comply. You'll get stuffed at the border, and will have to sell it back into the States.

$64K in the US and $94K here, what gives?
The mod is a transport Canada req'mt...not Audi Canada..audi is awesome about the import thing so let's not rip them too badly.

That being said, the answer is...import! Save your loot.

I just imported a 2007 S4 sedan with 30k loaded with NAV and CONV pkg for $38,000 usd. After fees, currency, import taxes and transport, it came out to $42,000 cdn + pst/gst. That's about $15,000 below cdn market for the same car.

Anybody know the progress on this? I tried googling and didn't find anything yet.

I'm interested in buying a 2007 RS4 from the US, but a bit concerned about the bumper mods. Even at $5,000, it's still a savings, but that's $5,000 I'd rather spend on tires and wheels.

I just spoke to Audi North America about the recall clearance letter and the rep was extremely helpful and friendly on the procedures for obtaining the recall clearance letter. However, he couldn't help me out very much on the bumper issue.

Wow, our government actually came through for us!
10' ago I just got an email from RIV with the following message:

Lavallee, Stephane to me
show details 2:33 PM (46 minutes ago) Reply

"Transport Canada has harmonized the Canadian bumper standards with the US standards. As a courtesy, RIV is advising you that if you have not already modified the bumper system on your vehicle, you no longer need to meet this requirement.
Attached please find a new inspection form with the bumper modification requirement removed.
If you imported a vehicle and have had the bumpers modified already, you were following the rules that applied at the time; the RIV cannot preannounce changes to government regulations.
To find out more about these changes please visit our website at www.riv.ca"

See for yourself at riv.ca - information is highlighted in yellow at the top of the home page

I was advised over the phone that the Admissibility List will be updated in the next three days.

Guess the Cabs will soon be crossing the border.

My Avus Silver RS4 is on its way from Florida!!!!
Cheers
