New A3 lowering kit
 

I have just test driven the new A3 3.2 quattro which in many respects is a
much more refined, and much faster car, than the S3 I have at the moment.

The big issue I have with the A3 is that the car simply sits way too high.
There is far too much gap between the wheel arch and tyre making it look
un-sporty. I believe Audi have made a real mistake with this because
everybody at the dealership agreed! The dealer says that Audi do not make a
lowering kit. Does anybody know if and where I could get a lowering kit, and
if Audi are looking to manufacture one?

You might want to wait until early next year when Audi will apparently
release the "S" line of A3, essentially for an additional £700 you get
sportier seats, new wheels (18" 5 spoke like the RS6), leather steering
wheel (as RS6) and a couple of other things I cant remember.

The dealer said this info should be on the official website this week, if
not there already.

Apparently, Richard doesn't deal well with anything he considers 'beneath'
him.

While Ron's suggestion may have been intended as a joke, mine was *not*.
It's very simple. The *only* factor Richard mentioned in his request was
looks. If you're only lowering the car for *looks*, the fastest and
cheapest way to do it is to simply chop the springs. This even has some
advantages, such as retaining the original spring rates on the car (unless
you hack off the wrong end of a progressive spring). Before all the
'boutique' spring manufacturers discovered clowns like Richard who will pay
almost any amount of money to look 'kewl', cutting the springs was a common
practice (I've done it before.) and it is still a legitimate way of
modifying the car's ride height. It just won't impress *his* friends,
though, will it?

If you have a problem with the way the car *performs*, Richard, I suggest
you tell us about it and we can make constructive suggestions for that, as
well. After all, I, at least, am a driving instructor for both BMW CCA and
ACNA (Audi Club North America; formerly the Audi Quattro Club USA) as well
as a race scrutineer with SCCA. I know a few things about vehicle dynamics
and how they can be addressed with suspension modifications, but *that's not
what you asked for*. You asked how to lower the car for looks. I told you
the cheapest and easiest *practical* way to do it. Maybe you'd prefer to
try the Kaleco $1.99 Lowering Kit here:

Fantastic oxymoron: an American chassis tuner!

You either went to a very cheap school or spent to much time trumpet
polishing when the English classes were taking place. Your extremely logical
argument would have been much more effective if it had not been accompanied
by such appalling grammer. But thanks anyway for stating the obvious

I think I'll go for the cross-drilled crake lines, personally - reminds me
of my first car (a Mini)
