Control Arm(s) cause BANG??! Audi 90

Can problems with control arm(s) cause a bang noise off the line, or
when going in reverse.. but only from a complete stop .. but mostly
only in cold damp weather... and why would cold damp weather aggravate
the problem. I swear I can actually "feel" something when this noise
happens... and its loud too
THanks

Erik,
It's possible that the control arm is going - although a more likely culprit
may be a cv joint, strut bearing, if it's a quattro, you may be in need of a
u-joint. The temperature dependence may be due to the cold making old,
thick grease even thicker. I had a similar problem shortly after I got my
5ktq - there was a banging under the floor at the driver's feet (LHD car -
not UK RHD) - turned out to be the failure of the engine and transmission
mounts on the left side - the transmission was slamming the underside of the
car when accelerating. R&R was fairly easy on the 5ktq - don't know about
on a 90.
Cheers!

1987 Audi 5kTQ - driver's tie rod on order - failure mode was silent but
wandering steering, especially in ruts
1980 Audi 5k - strut bearing failure to be addressed - makes a "boing" sound
as steering wheel is turned at low speed
1962 and '64 Auto Union DKW Junior deLuxes - winter storage problem to be
addressed in 5 months......
