Audi A4 socket

Behind the handbrake on a 1995 Audi A4 there is an ashtray (with
opening lid) for the rear passengers. To the left of the tray is an
unusual shape socket (it isnt a cigarette lighter type)... what is it
for?

Its the socket for plugging the VAG tool into to check for error codes and
diagnosing faults.
