A4 2.4 V6 SE Timing Belt
as the subject is approaching 60K miles I called my local Audi workshop for
a costing on the Timing Belt renewal.
I was surprised to be told, for this model, it should be changed at 40k
miles so will get it done now at their quoted cost £550 to £600.
unless someone here knows a good garage around the Winchester/Basingstoke,
Hampshire area

Weird. My 2000 A4 2.8 V6 is 80,000mile official replacement interval. I got
mine done at about 74,000 just to be safe. I also had the Water
pump, tensioner, idler roller, thermostat, accessory belt changed at the same.
I was quoted £431 from an Audi dealer for this work (not including the
thermostat) but I got it all done by my local garage for £365 (with
thermostat) using genuine Audi parts. The parts alone were about £250 with 4
hours labour. I imagine an Audi dealer will be quicker. I hope your price
includes the above parts or it is very expensive. The dealers normally only
change the tb,tensioner and accessory belt unless specifically asked to do
the rest.
I'd recommend my local garage but unfortunately its in the North East of
England.
Hope this helps

Interesting..........I have just had a second quote from another, more
local, Audi dealer.
£600 for TB, idler and V belt.
sounds very expensive now compared to your Audi dealer............how long
ago was your quote.
Did you get the Audi parts and supply them to the 3rd party garage or did
they buy them in.

I got the quote from the Audi Dealer around the end of November last year. I
had the work done at around the same time at the independent. I can't
imagine the price has risen that much in the last year. It may be down to
regional differences. My Audi dealers rate is £75+VAT per hour.
The independent garage I use is not an Audi specialist but I have used them
a long time and they are trustworthy and competent. They change the whole
lot in about 4 hours labour (there rate is about £32 inc VAT). They supplied
the genuine parts. I just said I wanted to use genuine parts and they get
them. I believe though that I would have been able to get them cheaper
myself but I just wanted them to do it all for me in case I got the wrong
parts. They just source the parts from the local dealer anyway. Next time I
may use someone like Eurocarparts of German and Swedish Parts to save on the
parts cost.
I also got the 80,000 mile service done at the independent. £225 as opposed
to £341 at the dealer. I also believe they do more checks etc. Genuine parts
used again.
Hope this helps
