can anyone help with a strange problem i am having with
my 200 turbo it started one morning on the way to work i
started my car drove off but noticed my engine sounded
rough seconds later my oil light came on i was almost
at work by this time so i carried on (yes i am stupid)at
dinner time i checked my dipstick level it was ok when
idrove home every thing was ok again no oil light engine
was quiet decided to do an oil change at weekend the
next day there was no oil pressure again so i left car at home ..As
planned i changed my oil and filters every thing
was fine again till the next morning (no oil pressure)something told me i
may have been given the wrong
filters so i changed them (from different supplier)engine
ok again some 6 hours later i started the car up no oil
pressure again i checked the oil pressure releif valve
it seemed allright then out of curiosity i refitted old oil
filter everything ok again till next day same problem!
i would be gratefull for any suggestions cheers.
ps: manual suggests bypass valve where is it or is it
part of filter. pps: pardon my grammar.

Michael,
Was one of the filters orange in colour?
There have been reports in audifans.com about filter element implosion in
some orange filters - resulting in major engine damage. Apparently,
although the crossref. chart at the FLAPS (friendly local autoparts store)
says that they work for the 10v/20v engines, they actually cannot handle the
high oil flow rate and the paper element implodes as a result, often with
paper bits travelling into the oil passageways in the engine. Hopefully you
were only using Mann/Bosch filters from the dealer, right?
Cheers!

1987 Audi 5kTQ - has a FRAM quick oil drain plug - it has an orange
tube...how odd. Bosch/Mann filters always.
1980 Audi 5k - bosch filters always
1962 and '64 Auto Union DKW Junior deLuxes - oil filters? why?
