Have the same problem on my 1998 A6 1.8T.

Literally just picked up the parts from my local Audi dealer:

Temp sender £26.79
O Ring £1.00
Retaining Clip £0.43

A good link describing how to change the sender on a 1.8T engine is:

It's for a Passat, but the engine in the Audi is exactly the same.
