1988 Audi 90 Fuel/Ignition Issues
I have continually had problems with my 1988 audi 90 5 cyl fwd... here
are the symptoms...
Ingine idle is not correct.. sometimes idles @ 800, sometimes, barely
enough to run, some time as much as 1200-1500.... and the idle also
bounces up and down (this i know is an issue w/ the Idle stablizer,
but i recently replaced the idle stabilizer...)
When Accelerating, if i push the gas pedal too much, the car loses
power and barely accelerates at all... I have to carefully give the
car gas so i can get up to highway speed... I also have to shift
rather earlier because if the engine revs to high (an that isn't very
high at this point) i lose power..
This is what I Have done already:
New fuel pump & Filter
Replaced idle stabilizer w/ used item
Changed spark plug/cap/rotor/wires
New Air filter
Checked vacuum lines and repaired/replaced where necessary... No leaks
found.
Adjusted timing
New o2 sensor
I am at a loss at this point... I really have no idea where to go at
this point.. is there anything else i should look at that would create
the power robbing experience?
Thanks for your help

Sounds like you changed a lot, but did you check things before replacing?
Did anything you replaced help?
It might be sensors or wiring issues for the fuel injection, such as ground
wires or throttle switches.
Or throttle linkage issues. Do both throttle plates move freely and rest at
their stops?
Got Bentley and a digital multimeter?
just my $0.02! Good luck!

Re: 1988 Audi 90 Fuel/Ignition Issues
I also saw some of the same problems you mention here before I found a
bad ground connection on my
1985 4000Q. I also found it with a Bentley manual and an Ohm meter. You
might just try unscrewing the
ground connections you can find in the engine compartments (mine were right
around the battery screwed to the
chassis) and clean them with a wire brush before re-connecting them.
I know that all kinds of things started working better after I did
that.....idling, running, meters and guages, and some
tune-up parameters that had never quite been right.
