A7 - Adaptive LED Headlights
A7'ers:
My understanding is that with the LED headlight package you get "adaptive" LED headlights. Upon turning on the car, I do see the self-leveling adjustment happen, however while driving and gently turning the steering wheel I don't see the 15 degree tilting of the headlights. I do see the fog light inside the headlight unit turning on for the duration while the steering is pointing in that direction. For example: When I turn left, the left headlight comes on, when I straighten the wheel it goes off. This can't be the same as adaptive headlights. In my previous Audis, I could actually see the headlight tilting towards the direction of the steering wheel. If anyone has any experience in this please let me know. I am not sure if the LED A6 headlights is similar to this or not. |
Re: A7 - Adaptive LED Headlights
ONe thing really cool I recently noticed.
Each time the turn signal is turned on, the fog light within the opposite headlight comes in even before the steering wheel is turned. Almost like the light gets ready for the turn. Really neat. Still not quite "adaptive" but pretty interesting nevertheless. |
Re: A7 - Adaptive LED Headlights
Very good question. It's important to note that the intelligent LED headlights are different in many ways from the "Adaptive" Bi-Xenon headlight.
They have range adjustment, but will not pivot side to side, from what I understand. Range adjustment meaning if you were driving with your high-beams and forget to switch them off, they will dim on their own on the driver side. I saw a video on this once, so far unable to locate it. Once I do, I will post it. |

Excellent explanation. Makes perfect sense. I am looking forward to Audi's next generation LED headlights. I think they're called Matrix LED. |
