A4 Categories

You might all notice that the A4 section has been modified to add the different model year categories such as the B5 to the B8 models.

When posting please post in the proper category to get the most out of your post.

Thanks, Mike

Re: A4 Categories

I may get this wrong but the A4 series of cars went through a number of body style changes over the years. The first being the B5 style which is from years 1994-2001. Then came the B6 body style or the well known "bubble butt" look which ran from 2002-2005. In 2006 another body style changed where they went to the large fish mouth front grille and more streamlined tail lights. The B7 body style ran from 2006-2008. We are now currently in the B8 body style which started in 2009.

Like I said I may be off on my years but hope this explains things for you.

This is if you are referring to the face lifted B5 which was introduced in 1998, not 1996

Pretty close for all of you but, a little off;

B5 - 1994 - 2001
B6 - 2001.5 - 2005
B7 - 2005.5 - 2007
B8 - 2007.5 - Present

This is for North America, however European Market overlaps a little more.

:)

well there we have it! Mike ya should put these years in beside the Models so people know where to be posting if they are not familiar.

Still slightly off - my 6 Speed Manual Avant is very definitely a B7, Model Year 2008; I am located in Canada, which last I checked was still considered part of North America  One of the reasons I bought the Avant then was because I had been hearing rumours of no manual B8 Avants for North America.

MY2009 was the start of the B8 for North America.

I always knew we had some experts here on the forum....LOL

I would say that 90+% of the members and new members would know what body style they have. This was the only time I have come across someone asking.

Model year 2008, however still produced in 2007 if im not mistaking. I am curious can you post the production date of it? You should find it on your B-pillar between the driver and rear passenger doors.

Phinx404 was correct... B5 started in 1996, not 1994 in north America. I had a 1996 B5, they were only available with the 2.8 v6, and it was a 12v with 170 hp, the 30v 2.8 v6 with 190 hp started in 1997.

Correct, mine was one of the 1st MY2008 A4's in Canada, assembled in Sep, 2007. My point is that in CY2008 you could still buy B7's in Canada that were likely built early in CY2008.

I agree the B8 became available in North America towards the latter half of CY2008. In other parts of the world, the B8 was available in the late CY2007 timeframe. North America Audi models seem to lag Europe by approx 6-12 months.

For North America B8 is CY2008.5 -> present
For Germany B8 is CY2007.5 -> present

Well let me settle this so no further confusion goes on

Re: A4 Categories

If you look at my previous post you will see that I did specify in north America (and this is a Canadian site). In Europe the b5 a4 did start in 1994, but not here. Here I assure you it was 1996. And when defining model runs with VAG, you have to be continent specific. Try telling a European that you own a 2005 golf IV- he will laugh and say there is no such thing. And there isn't- in Europe. In Europe the golf iv ended in 2002 and the golf v began in 2003, which we didn't see until 2006. This is common practice with VAG. I spend about 2 month per year in Europe and get a good preview of what is coming our way ;P
most north Americans think the A3 is a recent model, and only available as a wagon- and they too are correct- in north America. But it has been available in Europe for many years and as a 2 door as well!

I Agree Jordon, my bad I guess, however we do have a few people that are not from north America that visit our site ;) so what would be better to put the NA or the entire Audi in general? What do you guys think?

B6 A4 sedan- the J-Lo of cars lol!
The bubble but is what turns me off of the C5 A6's. Of course, the trunk lid spoilers completely change them for me.
But for both, I think, the avant is pure S3X

I think that is the reason most sites don't try to define by year, but rather leave it as platform (ie B7, C5, etc)

Awesome work!
I think the new sub groups are a great idea, and I am sure they will streamline the forum!!!

Re: A4 Categories

I appreciate the time and effort that went into reorganizing the site, but I don't care for the changes. I think there are a few drawbacks to the sub group layout:

1) Many issues are common across several model years. Categorizing a walk-through or known issue into a single sub-group just hides it from people who could find it useful. For example, turbo issues can be found on all models and the fix for a turbo blowing oil in a B6 is no different than a B7. Why confine a poster to a single sub-forum?

2) I think you're reducing the probability of questions being answered by people other than current owners of a particular model. If, for example, I'm browsing the forum looking for info on my B7, I have no reason to poke around the B6 forum and provide insight into issues that I'm familiar with because I've previously owned a B6.

I think the forum should be back to the way it was.

Just my 2 cents - and I do appreciate your effort in trying to improve the forum.

Re: A4 Categories

I was thinking something similar when I saw the change...
Its too bad there isnt some kind of a cross reference that would allow the posts to be central in one area, but also divided into sub groups in another.
I know its hard work - no matter what the design - so I apprecaite everything that has gone into it... I just wanted to mention I was thinking something similar.

In some cases im sure its 6 one way half a dozen another...

Hi,

I am new to this forum and had a question that I was hoping I could find an answer to. I have a 2007 A4 Cabriolet from the U.S. and I need to find out how to enable the daytime running lights. Does anyone know how to get this done? Is it something that I can do myself or do I have to take the vehicle to a dealer or autoshop to have them do it?

Thanks in advance for your answers. I look forward to hearing back from anyone with some info.

M

If you are sure the sensor is OK, there may a problem with the piece that is being sensed, When I had my 1998 B5 sedan, I had to get a replacement toothed wheel - the old one had corroded with the salt etc from our winters so there were missing teeth etc.
