Re: car phone
Welcome to the forum!
There is no factory cell phone that comes with the car or that is an option for the car.
If you have the plate in the arm rest it means your car has been prepped for Bluetooth hands-free. The cradle and the plate are in no way necessary for the operation of the Bluetooth hands-free, but if you like, you can buy a cradle (iPhone cradle shown below) that will attach the plate. The Bluetooth hands-free will operate with or without a cradle attached. The "PHONE" button allows you to access your cell phone on the MMI head unit (stereo) if it is paired to the Bluetooth hands-free device in the car. Instructions for use are outlined in the MMI owners manual if you need more details.
The cradle/plate is older technology that is used in countries other than in North America. All of our cars connect your phone to the hands-free via Bluetooth. The only real benefit to the cradle in North America would be to charge your phone. To date, the only cradle I have personally seen offered is for the iPhone. It works well, and is nicely hidden and supported, but is an awfully expensive charger.
