That is incredible. I get anywhere from 4-450 in the city and pushing it to 600 on the highway with cruise on at no more than 110 km/h.

Do you have spare tanks in the back seat?

no spare tanks guess i am just easy on the pedal. with a 70litre tank and getting near 10L/100 km the 600-700 is consistent.

Your in Kilbride, not too far from us. Consider joining us sometime at the Golden Horseshoe Meet (check out Tuesdays pictures).

I wish I could get that kind of gas mileage, way to go.

I use shell 89 octane.. no issues, same performance and mileage. Someone told me very little differnce, so i gave it a go and have been happy. Great engine but should have been geared diffently.

I too can get 700 - 800 km on 1 tank, but only cruising on the highway on a long trip. I once went Toronto - Montreal round trip on 1.5 tanks. That's 1100 km on 1.5 tanks. Need to keep speed below 120kph though because I noticed at that speed that fuel consumption starts to take off. Probably because I only have 5 speed tranny. Newer 6 speed would fair better I think. City mileage sucks though. City mileage is about half of hwy mileage. Wish I could shut down half of engine when just idling in stop and go traffic for hours some times. I only use 94 Octane, even with the max 10% ethanol - which engine is approved for - and performance is so much better than lower octane fuels. Also, Unitronic, who did my ECU upgrade also suggested 94 Octane. As I have 249,000 km on engine now, and have always used 94 Octane, except when stuck for fuel, I can say that even long term, the 5-10% ethanol doesn't damage engine. (at least mine) I've never had engine damage per se. Right now my car is actually looking and running better than it did when it was new.

Have to agree with you on the last point. Wish the 6th gear was taller to the tune of at least 500 rpm.

The C5 4.2L has a 90L tank, not 70L. That said I can easily get mine down to 9.2 - 8.9L/100K if I'm on a nice flat highway with no elevation changes such as Vancouver to Seattle. On mountain runs with lots of up and down like Vancouver to Kelowna I'll typically see in the 10.5 - 11.0L/100K range. The only cruise control I use is my right foot. Running on cruise control is cheating as a driver and, especially on mountain highways, more dangerous as you are less immediately in control of your vehicle.

my 2001 a6 4.2 actually has an 82L tank.

I get about 400km (that's a terrible 20L/100km!) per tank in winter city driving, 475km summer city driving and about 700km on the highway. there's more traffic in calgary during the winter, which probably contributes to the poor mileage.

i've had my car for 2 years and have had a coolant system leak ($1K, including labour), new cv boots ($500), new air flow meter ($330), and a rebuilt transmission ($4200), but nothing engine related so far. fortunately most of those repairs were under an extended warranty that I bought.

I'm surprised that you can push up to 450km in city with the s4!!

How many Litres can the s4 tank fill up to?

My tank showed empty and filled up today 60.something litres. Depending on driving I do regularly get 400-450 km on a tank full. On the otherhand highway is close to 600 km and again depending on driving habits. I wouldn't consider myself a grandpa driver, I do like to give er once in a while.

The specs show that the fuel tank in the S4 is 63.6 L
