Default 04 A6 2.7T Slow at times

Hey guys, umm this is funny for me to post. I am complaining that my Audi A6 2.7T is slow lately. Why its funny? Cause my last car was a 140hp honda civic and now im in a 265hp car LOL.

Ok jokes aside, can you guys tell me: is it possible that with the hot weather outside that the OIL HEAT reaching up to 100-110 Celsius, that I might be losing a bit of performance???

In winter the car was running great but since the heat wave we're getting in Montreal, its like the engine oil heats up and my performance isnt that "great".

Please answer the question and I just want to add that I know this car has 2 small intercoolers and I have a project by the end of the summer to replace them with one front grill BIG intercooler which is suppose to help the engine cooling way better then what I have now.

Ok thanks guys in advance for your help, opinion, etc!!!

Sounds like Heat Soak based on your description. Check your DV's and you may want to periodically pressure test the Intake System for any leaks as it's a bit of a must on the 2.7T's.

New Intercoolers will definitely help if it is a Heat Soak issue! ER and AWE make good SMIC's. A FMIC requires front bumper structural support to be hacked up and personally I'm not into that but to each their own.

When the IATs (Intake Air Temperature) reaches a certain level, the ECU pulls timing to avoid pre-detonation. If you have a VAG-COM - or access to one - you can log your timing to see if the ECU is pulling it.

I highly recommend an FMIC on nearly any turbo car, as you lose power when you want to use it the most - Summer! Water/methanol injection is also a great way to keep your timing higher than stock levels, for additional power.

That said, I've also seen boost/vacuum leaks only appear when it's very hot out.

Unless your building a track car or intend to drive very aggessively on the street regularly in hot weather, you will notice little difference between good SMIC's and an FMIC for the 2.7T.

Think seriously about an FMIC before proceeding as you have to destroy the bumper structural impact beam which effectively eliminates the front bumper mechanical structure. This could be an issue if ever in a front end accident with increased damage and potential liability issues, potential fail safety issue, may lower resale value, adding yet another heat source in front of engine radiator and A/C, etc.

IMHO SMIC's and Meth would be good together!

That's what I'm thinking too. I'm shopping for smic instead of fmic. Any suggestions on brand best for my A6?

Thanks

ER or AWE.

ER is less expensive.

I'm running AWE on one of my B5 S4's and they are good!

Yes with the oil above 100C you loose performance. I recommend Castrol 15W40.
and yes it is for D I E S E L!!!

Is it good for the engine in the long run and how much does it help with performance???

You said diesel... So why should I use it?

The manufacturers make oil for diesel engines way better because diesel engines run hotter and produce way more carbon. Diesel oil is a completely different and way better product. You will see huge difference in acceleration and reduction in repair cost. It will keep your engine clean
