Steering wheel noise!!!

Hey guys, I've been driving a 2004 A6 2.7T S-Line since last august and I absolutely love this beast. But I am having issues with the steering wheel and the dealer is telling me its normal.

When I turn the steering wheel while the car is idle, I can hear a whistling kind of noise and its even worse when I am going into reverse. The dealer tells me that its normal for a pump on this model to do that sound but I dont think a whistling noise sound is normal on any dam vehicle.

Can you guys please let me know if you had a problem like this before or if you have any suggestions to what I can tell the dealer to check for?

Please, I need your help.

Thanks!

FYI: The car is under warranty and covers all this stuff.

I would get it replaced. Ask him to show you another car like it and see if it also makes noises.. I highly thought it will.

Re: Steering wheel noise!!!

The noise could be air cavitating in the pump causing noise. Check for a leak at all hose connections and rack ends. A leak on the low pressure side may let small amounts of air in and yet leak very little fluid making it challenging to identify.

Good Luck!

Re: Steering wheel noise!!!

Flush the oil and make sure to use the one the dealer sell. I had the same thing in mine and it was really bad but I did something never been done. I disconnect the oil resurve and conneced the water hose to the system till the water came clear. after drying the system with air pressure, I checked the hoses coming and going to the pump and one ties was loose. after all this and system ties were check and tied, I put the oil and had to wait for a while till the oil fill the system( DO NOT START THE CAR FOR THE OIL TO FILL) this will damage the pump and create air inside.

but you can drain the oil without doing all of the above but make sure all ties are good NO leak near the pump. if you do then the ties or the pipe is loose.

you can drain the oil from the bumper side the pipes by the AC radiatar

Re: Steering wheel noise!!!

You have air bubbles in the fluid. I went to Canadian Tire and added Power Steering stop leak.
The problem gets worse during or after the rain if water comes into your steering.
