Default A6 imported from the US - My experience

Just imported an 2006 A6 Sedan( tech, preminum, and nav package) yesterday from California with 30K miles for $23K US . Had the DRLs done at Roger Jobs Audi in Bellingham, Washington for $166US. They were very friendly. The extended warranty recommended was the Audi pure protection underwritten by fidelilty. They quoted $1900US for 4yrs $100 deductable. The waranty is valid in Canada according to Fidelity. If worst comes to worst and Canadian dealers hassle me and don't want to accept it I can I just run it down to Bellingham which is not far from Vancouver. The manufacturers warranty runs out on this car June 2010 so I have a few months to decide. All in all the process was smooth. If you come through the Blaine border crossing the RIV has an office that you take form 1 into and they will email you form 2 ( inspection) within 48hr which is a much quicker process. THe only mistake I made was going through the Nexus lane when importing my car. Turns out you can't do that with anything worth $5K or more. They didn't like that and threatened to sieze my car. I was humble and explained that it was an honest mistake.

Was worth the time and effort mainly because there was so little selection of used A6 in the Vancovuer market. I counted only 3 and they were high mileage car.

Used Autotrader.com and cars.com as my main source of leads.

Feel free to ask questions and I'm happy to help out.

That's great, but I question why you paid 166.00 to get the DRL's done. They are operated through a setting on the MMI interface, (as is changing all the info to metric).

I have dealt with Open Road Audi in Vancouver with my imported A6 and they have been nothing but helpful. (Ask for Bob Lund).

As for your extended warranty, it shouldn't be an issue. You will likely have to pay any bills yourself and get the insurer to compensate you. Audi doesn't care who pay the bills.

Good luck.

gmad,
I called around to a couple of Dealers on changing DRLs and they quoted me $350 so I thought $166 was a good price. As far a reprograming them in the MMI myself I wish I had seen the setting but I didn't have the car with me before it was done at the dealer.
Appreciate the name at Open Road Audi. I spoke to the service dept at Open road in Vancouver and they were not very helpful so I'll run it out to Richmond Open Road if I have any warranty issues.

Just to clarify too - The Audi Warranty covers North America so you can take it to any dealer to have warranty honored. I checked this with Audi directly before bringing in my '04 Allroad.

Did you not pay GST as well? If so, on the base price or after the 6% was added on?
