Thinking back to how much I paid for my used 3yr old 1998 A4 2.8V6 quattro with all options, I think the A4 new price would have been around the $38-42,000 mark. A6 would probably have been another $5-8000 over that.

I do know a 4 cyl Honda Accord had a list price of $27,500 in 1998 as I bought one for less than that.
