I know of three Audiworld members that have A6 2.7Ts that are putting out 450-550AWHP with extensive and expensive modifications. They have raced on a track against another Audiworld member with a bone stock RS6 and have been able to pull ahead. You can do a lot with your car, but like everything else you need to set a goal, timeline and budget.
$2,000 is plenty for numerous upgrades that other members have already mentioned. That should be enough to put you on par with some 5-Series and E-Class cars out there.
Your tranny is a ZF 5HP24FLA which can't really handle more than 300lb-ft/400nm of torque. Transmission work on our cars is expensive, so be sure you look into that before you start putting out ridiculous power to the ground.
