Battery Replacement

Re: Battery Replacement
My battery bit the dust this morning. It was parked for two weeks and when I tried to start it - it wouldn't even turn over. I went the Costco and bought a replacement and it's all good now!
The only thing I didn't find was the drain/vent hose. One came with the new battery but one wasn't connected to the old battery - which an OEM battery. Is this hose necessary/important?

Re: Battery Replacement
I have a battery that has been installed in my 2001 C5 A6 since November 2005. A sticker on the battery indicates that it was manufactured in April 2005. I believe, but not sure, that it is an OEM (Bosch?) battery because it was installed at a dealer by the previous owner.
It still starts on one crank and I didn't drive the car - or even start it - for six weeks last winter (Dec-Feb) and it started on the first crank.
I hope to make it through the winter and replace next year sometime - as seven years for a battery is plenty long. What kind of life span do you think I can I expect from the battery?

I figured it had something to do with the firmware on the cluster, so I swapped the firmware into a newer one I found on a polish site.
Now my car is braindead and doesn´t show anything on the instrument panel.
Of course I forgot to make a backup of the original cluster so now I need another software, do you have the cables/software to make a copy of yours?
