A6 2001 quattro 2.8 mysterious overheating
Hi Friends,
The car is : A6 2001 quattro 2.8L automatic
The car has 140 000 KM on it. The engine started overheating and there was coolant leak. I changed coolant reservoir and the radiator. It still overheats and when it heats too much then I off the engine and I see and hear the water pump kicking.. The coolant goes down the reservoir through the water pump.
Also when I put full heat in the car it's as cold as the AC. The engine fan works perfectly.. When the car heats up the steering wheel becomes very hard to turn and control.
I sent it to an Audi specialist and he is telling me that he cannot tell the exact problem for the overheating but if he has to change the water pump and thermostat and timing belt he's got to remove whole engine front and the cost will near 1000$.
I told the mechanic to change the thermostat first, if that's it then it would save me lot of money.
