I never said it was from changing my oil. I just didnt think it was oil burning because of the plastic smell.

But I found out synthetic smells like plastic when burnt.

It happens when the engine is hot. Right now I am assuming valve cover gaskets.

I will have the shop look at it next time its in. No I dont have any after market subs or amps. My headlights are stock.

Thanks for responding I will post what I find out. Right now I am still driving it and it doesn't always happen.

That day it was warm out.

Can you smell it right at start up, when the engine is cold, or you have to wait awhile till it gets warm?

You don't have any aftermarket subs or amps? or mods (such as aftermarket HID?)

Did you happen to even figure out what it was by chance? I just put a lot of money into the timing belt and wather pump and a dew hoses literally 2 days after I bought the car, please get back with me I don't want to blow the motor or cause anymore damage...other than the smoke the car runs top notch and is a beast...its the 2003 1.8t Quattro so anything would help.. thanks in advance

It has happened at least three time now but only when the outdoor temp has been +32*C (from what I've noted). The temperature gauges all read normal and there's no check engine light on, scan is all good.

I was at a red light once and it billowed out the passenger side wheel arch with an overwhelming plastic smell, then just stoped

Does anyone know what the cause of this is?

Thanks in advance!!

Question 2003 A4 1.8TQT white smoke from engine bay

I have a 2003 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro that runs, drives, perfect.. the check engine light is on due to o2 sensor and something with over boost is what I was told. but my main concern is its smoking out of the left engine bay and im not sure why...I have never used the forums but ive seen others helped and saved lots of $$$$ I have changed the water pump, timing belt. and hoses running from the back of the motor. which were all done at a legit shop.... even before that it was smoking and now of course after it is also still smoking. can anybody that's had similar results please help me out ive already put a lot of money into the car and none in which are aftermarket parts like I plan on doing such as front lip rims etc... anything will help It just really bothers me that its smoking and I wont even drive it cause I don't want further problems... please help me in any way possible.....thanks guys/gals!!!!!

Mine ended up being a Cracked CB boot , Spitting grease on Exhaust. Replaced boot , Problem solved.

Bought the car in the winter all was fine. Now its starting to get nice out and I noticed smoke from passenger side.

I popped the hood and the smoke smells like burning plastic .

Not burning oil , Not burning rubber but burning plastic.

Its coming from the passenger side close to the fire wall.

Anyone ?

Thanks for your time.

Forgot all about this forum lol.

The dealer told me it was probably just some coolant that had leaked out of the reservoir and it wasn't a big deal/ was common. It mostly happened after the car was warmed up and the outside temp was 35degrees plus (rarely). The car never overheated it just had some white plastic smelling smoke that came out once in a while. I don't own the car anymore so I don't know if its still reoccurring to this day.

thanks for the reply I appreciate it...I guess I bought a "lemon" I drove 8 hours out of my way drove the car on the interstate and the thing over heated...dropped it off at the nearest shop and had some hoses replaced and the timing belt plus the water pump and thermostat so I was praying the smoke was nothing too expensive or a DIY project....great care but built cheaply... thanks again!
