Default 1999 A6 - Replacement Intervals for Timing Belt?

I keep reading about quite drastic different recommendations about the replacement interval for the timing belt - anything between 60K Kms and 160K Kms.

What is Audi's recommendation for a 1999 A6?
Is there a maintenance schedule for this car on line somewhere that I can download and consult?
I bought the car used from a dealer about six years ago and even though he kept promising me to get the maintenance booklet for the car, he never did.

You have the 2.8?

The original service interval for the timing belt was 105 000 miles...that turns out to be 168 000km.
Problem was a lot of people had it snap before then and since its an interference engine that leads to a lot of frustration.

The tensioner roller is scheduled at 120 000 km so most people just started doing the timing belt at that interval even if Audi didn't officially change the service schedule.

If the car has been driven hard, i'd do it even before that but somewhere around 120 000 should be safe for most people...I have a maintenance PDF on the home comp for the 1999...I don't remember where I got it but I can post it when I get home.

Yes - it's a 2.8

What you write makes sense.
My Audi mechanic replaced the timing belt etc. around 120 000 km while he was doing some other work on the engine, if I remember correctly.

Assuming that's true, is the recommended interval for the second timing belt replacement the same as the first? ie - do it again at 240 000 km or so.

Other 1999 Audi A6 discussions were suggesting that the first timing belt replacement needed to be done at a much shorter interval than the second and subsequent ones.

Well the 2nd tensioner replacement is scheduled at 240 000 km for the 2.8. I'd be replacing the timing belt there too, there is no maintenence sched officially posted past 240 000km or at least not one that i've seen...just start again at the beginning haha
